What the Truman Doctrine Did
There are many things that the Truman Doctrine was aimed at accomplishing. As stated in the Truman Doctrine, “it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures”. This quote means that it is the duty of the United States to help those countries opposing communists domination. This is exactly what the Truman Doctrine did. The Truman Doctrine sent 300 United States soldiers and weapons to Greece to fight against communist guerilla groups. The United States also gave Greece and Turkey $400 million. While putting this money into Greece and Turkey the United States was not simply giving it away they strictly monitored and oversaw it making sure that it was being used effectively to increase Greece and Turkey’s ability to be self supporting. This in turn “stabilized” both countries. Also with the Truman Doctrine came a promise, a promise to aid any other country that would oppose communist rule. This solidified the United State’s position as international police.
